Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
- An air bubble in the chest forces the lung to collapse
-
Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax
- A little thing (bleb) in the lung bursts, deflating the lung and letting air into my chest
- Happens for no good reason, common in thin, tall, males, 20-40 (I match all criteria)
- On Thursday I went to the ER because of severe chest pain, especially when breathing in
- X-rays showed 10% (4cm) of my left lung collapsed
- On Friday the X-rays showed that it grew to 5cm
- X-ray tech said I had very long lungs, didn’t fit on one X-ray
- To avoid complications over the long weekend they decided to put a tube and a Heimlich valve in to drain the air bubble
- I currently have a one foot tube slightly thicker than a pencil coming out of my chest
- Attached to the tube is a Heimlich valve (one way)
- Supposedly due to negative pressure or some magic the valve will let out all the air, no suction or vacuum is used, and my lung will open back up
- Right now theres some soreness in my chest, especially my left shoulder
- On Monday more X-rays will be taken and hopefully the tube will be taken out
- It’s not uncommon for this to happen again, and apparenlty I have a bunch of these bleb’s that could rupture again
